Union Castle was one of the most famous lines ever.  Just as Cunard is famed on the North Atlantic, Union Castle provided outstanding service between Britain and South Africa.

Many Union Castle liners made the transition to cruising.  Transvaal Castle (later the S.A. Vaal), eventually became Carnival's "Festivale", one of that line's first three ships.  She ended her career as Premier's "Island Breeze".

The "Donnatar Castle", built in the 1930's, became a cruise ship for the old Incres Line, and currently is owned by Louis Cruise Lines (now parent of Royal Olympic/Royal Olympia).

Over the next few months we will be adding Union Castle features.  Click on "Pendennis Castle" to see what Keith thinks is one of the most handsome Union Castle ships.
